Dell Wyse Datacenter for VMware Horizon DaaS is an end-to-end Service Provider focused DaaS infrastructure solution based on VMware Horizon DaaS. 2014.  This solution is designed to deliver a cost effective/competitive offering solution starting point for service providers designing a desktop-as-a-service offering.  The offering has three primary focuses: Simplified Hardware Architecture Design, Simplified OS Licensing and End-to-End Monitoring and Management

Service providers (SPs) wishing to stand up an infrastructure for hosted as-a-Service offerings have limited documented infrastructure options.  The primary offering available is extremely complicated, complex and expensive.  The offering does not provide a complete end-to-end monitoring and management solution, includes an expensive SAN guidance and the Microsoft OS licensing guidance is left completely up to the service provider.  Smaller service providers wishing to implement a competitive end-to-end solution have had little guidance, until now.  The Dell Wyse Datacenter for VMware Horizon DaaS solution architecture is guidance that those SPs have been looking for.  Our solution strives to provide solid guidance that will be reliable, proven and still remain competitive in the SP hosted DaaS marketplace.

Specifically the Dell Wyse Datacenter for Horizon DaaS is based on the proven and industry leading Dell infrastructure, including the PowerEdge R710 and Force10.  It incorporates VMware Horizon DaaS (formerly Desktone) which is the leading DaaS software solution and includes billing and monitoring capabilities.  With Dell’s additional work on specific plug-ins and the inclusion of Dell’s vFoglight, this solution provides the complete end-to-end monitoring, management and billing capabilities that are lacking in other solutions.

To further drive the competitive nature of this offering, Dell Wyse Datacenter for Horizon DaaS has partnered with SolidFire to provide flash array storage.  SolidFire has developed the SolidFire SF-3010 Array based exclusively on Dell hardware that is OEM’d.  It is considered the industry leading solution for inline dedupe, high IOPS and multi-tenancy capabilities by both Dell and VMware.

Finally, the Microsoft licensing guidance, the Dell Wyse Datacenter for Horizon DaaS solution architecture provides guidance on Microsoft’s Service Provider Licensing Agreements (SPLA).  This license agreement is specifically for SPs and allows for little upfront expense to the SP and only charges the SP for what they are currently using (rather than the annualized billing based on the peak license consumption).  Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the SPLA model is that SPs are able to utilize Windows Server 2012 Datacenter edition for the virtual machines delivered rather than Windows 7/8 OS thru VDA licensing models.  With the Datacenter, there are unlimited virtual machines allowed to run concurrently.  This allows the SP to be very streamlined with their expenses and billing to reduce overhead and administrative requirements.

With these three differentiating factors included in the Dell Wyse Datacenter for Horizon View, Service Providers now have a competitive, prescriptive solution that simplifies ownership, installation and implementation while increasing competitiveness in the hosted DaaS marketplace.  Currently, this solution is available in the US but globalization commitments are in place to expand this offering globally in the future.   Dell is very pleased and excited to offer this solution architecture to Service Providers.
